The Nikkiso Aquarius System is an automated fluid balance monitor designed for use in a variety of extracorporeal procedures in renal replacement therapy or plasma therapy for adults and children.
The user-friendly design of the Aquarius allows medical staff to concentrate on patient care. New system features provide fast UF adjustments with scale alarms.
Fluid management function
(Total Fluid Management)
When there is a difference between the set and actual UF volumes, a balance imbalance alarm occurs. After the signal, all pumps stop while the blood pump continues to run. Thus, the cause of imbalance is eliminated. After the pumps are restarted, changes in UF will be automatically taken into account by the system. New Total Fluid Management feature prevents excessive patient fluid loss.
Renal dose
Displayed on the main screen (ml/kg/h) so that the user is fully aware of the replacement solution rate. To enable this feature, simply enter the patient's weight.
Built-in replacement solution heater
Provides a temperature close to normal body temperature at high replacement solution flows.
Automatic degassing chamber
Collects and removes gas from the warm replacement solution, ensuring safe application.
Ability to perform all modes of continuous renal replacement therapy in adults and children (high-volume hemofiltration is especially effective).
The Aquarius system allows you to safely carry out the following procedures:
- prolonged veno-venous hemofiltration (CVVH);
- prolonged veno-venous hemodialysis (CVVHD);
- prolonged veno-venous hemodiafiltration (CVVHDF);
- extended slow ultrafiltration (SCUF);
- therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE);
- hemosorption (hemoperfusion).
The ability to change the type of treatment without disconnecting the patient from the system and replacing the lines.
One set of lines for all procedures
Aqualine for adults and Aqualine S for children are used for all procedures carried out on the Aquarius system. Therefore, if during therapy it is necessary to change the treatment, this can be done without changing the line.

Rotating weighing system
Simplifies the installation and removal of replacement solution and filtrate bags. Aquarius has four scales. Scales for substitute/dialysate supporting weight up to 20 kg, as well as scales for citrate and calcium supporting weight up to 2.2 kg. To reduce the number of bag changes it is possible to use the Aquaspike adapter to install four 5 liter bags at the same time.
Citrate Anticoagulation Module
It consists of citrate and calcium pumps, as well as a weighing system for calcium and citrate solutions, which allows for renal replacement therapy procedures using the citrate anticoagulation method. Procedures using the citrate anticoagulation method can significantly increase the life of the dialyzer.
Rotating screen
Rotating the display up to 300° allows you to view the screen from different positions.

Hemofiltration
* Hemofiltration (a combination of the Greek word for "blood" and the Latin for "straining") is a method of blood purification by filtering it through high-tech membranes while replacing the removed filtrate with a special solution. Hemofiltration is a more effective procedure compared to hemodialysis.
